Georgia Tech Carbon Neutral Energy Solutions Laboratory
Anning-Johnson contributed to the new construction of a LEED Certified Sustainable Energy Laboratory, where Georgia Tech will perform studies and testing of sustainable energy solutions. Half of the building is not air-conditioned and is kept cool purely by adjustable louvers, translucent panels and large low-energy fans. The entire roof, south facade, front canopy and parking canopy structures were covered with solar panels. The project was funded by an NIST Grant, and required adherence to the “Buy-American” clause of the ARRA. The accelerated schedule combined with the small footprint of both the building and overall site require extensive coordination with the GC and other trades to maintain suitable, productive working conditions.
