This six‑story facility serves the Bay Area Buddhist community with education spaces, meditation rooms, and residential accommodations for visiting volunteers and monastics. Anning‑Johnson installed metal deck across seven levels, supporting a structure designed with concrete shear walls.
Deck installation required precise sequencing, as each level of shear walls needed to fully cure before steel erection could continue above. This resulted in phased work with extended pauses between installations, demanding careful planning and coordination.
The exterior scope included custom metal panels designed to reflect traditional Buddhist architecture. With no available laydown area, panels were hoisted to the roof and lowered through scaffolding using a pulley system for final placement, requiring close coordination and attention to detail to safely execute the work while maintaining architectural intent.
